The Social Spoon Tax

Connection is vital. But for a nervous system in flare, masking as "fine" in a loud cafe is the most expensive activity you'll do all week.

Strategy 01

The Pre-emptive Exit

Don't wait for your battery to hit red to leave. Set expectations before you even arrive: "I'm looking forward to seeing you, but I'll likely only be able to stay for an hour." This removes the "Spoon Guilt" when you need to go.

Strategy 02

The Quiet Signal

Have a partner or close friend who knows your "fog face." A simple, non-verbal signal (like a double tap on the wrist) means "I'm hitting a wall, I need to transition to a quieter space."

Strategy 03

The Post-Social Buffer

Always schedule 30 minutes of "Zero-Stim" time immediately after a social outing. No phone, no music, just darkness. This allows the nervous system to settle before the flare-up can take root.

"You don't owe anyone
your health."
